Investment Shares

Series H Investment Shares are here! Want to learn more about them? Check out the FAQ below.

What are Investment Shares?

Investment Shares are an equity investment in Bow Valley Credit Union offered exclusively to our members.  Investment shares are different from other types of investments.  These Investment Shares offer our members the potential to realize an excellent rate of return while helping build the Credit Union's capital base for future growth.

What is the selling period? How many Shares will be sold?

Series H Investment Shares sales begin on May 20, 2021, and will continue until subscriptions reach the maximum issue of $2million or until September 15, 2021 — whichever comes first.

What is the purchase price of an Investment Share?

Each Series H Investment Share is $1.00.

Are there minimum and maximum investment limits?

The minimum investment is $500 and the maximum is $50,000 per member.  Purchases between the minimum and maximum number of shares must be in incremental blocks of 100 Series H Investment Shares.

Who may purchase Investment Shares?

The sale of Investment Shares is restricted to Bow Valley Credit Union members who are age 18 or over.

How are Investment Shares different from the Common Shares I already have?

Common Shares are the class of shares required to be able to do business with Bow Valley Credit Union. Your membership begins with the Common Shares, which entitles you to have one vote at Bow Valley Credit Union Annual General Meeting.  Investment Shares are an investment made available exclusively to members, and are only available through special, time-limited offerings, and carry no voting rights.

Are Investment Shares eligible for Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSP)?

Series H Investment Shares may be purchased and held either inside or outside of a Registered Retirement Savings Plan but are not eligible to be purchased as a Registered Retirement Income Fund (RIF).

What is the minimum dividend rate?

Bow Valley Credit Union will be paying a minimum 2.50 % annual yield until October 31, 2023. Each October 31 thereafter, the rate will be equal to the average yield on our Alberta Plus one-year term PLUS 1.5%.  Dividends on Series H Investment Shares are non-cumulative.

Are Series H Investment Shares redeemable?

Yes, please refer to the Disclosure Statement for specifics.

How do I invest?

Visit your local Bow Valley Credit Union branch for more information and to purchase Series H Investment Shares.

We are required to tell you that that Investment Shares are not deposits: returns are not guaranteed, and the funds are not eligible for deposit insurance.  We also have to provide you with a copy of our Disclosure Statement as well as our Financial Statements. Happy reading!
